EHV-1 Update from The Pony Club

The Pony Club has had a number of general enquiries regarding EHV-1.

We are aware of the recent case reported to British Dressage. BD were notified of a further case of EHV-1 in a dressage yard in Aberdeen on 22/03. There appears to be no clear link with the cases in Gloucestershire.

We urge members to help protect the wider equestrian community by not travelling any horses showing signs of ill health. It is also strongly recommended that anyone who has hunted, or may have come in to contact with anyone that has hunted, with the Heythrop, the Beaufort or the Berkeley since 6th March 2013 DO NOT travel their horses.

In all cases The Pony Club advises its Members to follow the best practise guidance [see links on the Downloads page].

The health and wellbeing of horses is always the first priority and we consider that we have taken appropriate advice and that we are taking all reasonable steps to reduce any risk. Members are requested to act responsibly, consider others and if further guidance is needed we suggest contacting their own vets.

We will continue to monitor the situation, and if it changes a notification will be placed on www.pcuk.org.

Senior Executive Secretary
The Pony Club

Informative talks at Robinsons

Garth South Branch has made an arrangement with Robinsons Megastore in Basingstoke for them to host monthly lectures on their behalf on pertinent topics. They're open to anyone, so if any of our members would be interested in attending they will be very welcome - though it would be helpful to give Garth South an indicative idea of numbers. The store and cafe will be open late on these evenings and Robinsons will also offer free hat and body protector checks and fitting on production of your current Pony Club membership card. Cost will be £5 on the door, and they will start promptly at 6pm.

17 January: Getting your horse fit and how to judge how fit he is: Cheryl Bezants BHSI and Pony Club B test examiner

21 February: Winter and Spring Feeding: Simone, Nutritionist from Alan and Page

21 March: Worms and Worming: Intelligent Worming

Report of Prize Giving 2012

A report of the Prize Giving held on Friday 16 November 2012, including a full list of this year's rophies, medals, test, badges, colours and special awards is available at http://www.sandhurstpc.co.uk/html/prize_giving.html.

Special mention must be made of Eileen & Ruby Giles, whose names were missed out on the night through an oversight. Eileen & Ruby passed their E test on 13 October 2012.

We are keen to understand why so few booking were made by the original closing date. In Gina's words at the prizegiving:

"Was it that you did not like the disco, loud music, donít do dancing etc.?

Was it that you all like a takeaway on a Friday night, so the buffet did not appeal?

Was it that you never received the usual email reminders and chivvies? Or was it any other reason?

If it was the latter I donít want to hear any more grumbles about the number of emails that we as a branch send out to you all!

Please do let us know for planning next year."

Please email your comments to staffcollege@pcuk.org or speak to Gina or any member of the committee.
