We took three Mounted Games teams away this weekend for two days of competition to Somerset for the
Mendip Farmers PC mounted games competition.

The Senior B team consisting of Nicole Wilson, Lucy Blair, Gemma Thieme and Rosie Powell from East Sussex PC
rode very well in their heats qualifying for the B final and finishing in a good 4th place.
This was also a great result as the team were without a rider until the last moment when Rosie stepped in, they had only half an our to train together before the competition.

Our Senior A team of Michaela Wilson, Oliver May, Rachel Chambers and Annie Blair all rodereally well in their heats qualifying for the A Final, they finished a brilliant 5th overall in a very tough A final against 3 previous Horse of the year show teams including last years winners, it was extremely fast and furious.
Great achievement considering it was their first time out as a complete team, our best performance so far.

Our Junior team consisting of Chloe Day, Sam Redding, Phoebe Armstrong and Elysia Geeves had afantastic ride also qualifying for their A final, they rode even better in the final and after a nerve breaking tie break for
2nd place they had pulled it off.

We all had a fantastic weekend, camping with 12 ponies and our families in the beautiful countryside of Somerset, the weather was amazing and the team spirit was second to none, what more could you ask for.

17th April - OBH South Hunter Trials at Rosehill
Gillian very kindly walked the course with us, and, as we discovered we had 4 entries from SC& SH within the required classes we also entered as a team. First to go in the Mini at 2ft 3 was Tamsin Stamp, who followed Gillian’s instructions and produced a very creditable round with just one refusal, this being her first ever cross country competition. Next to go was Nicole Wilson on Bob, who set off brilliantly, but sadly for some reason he uncharacteristically refused the water and was eliminated. Finally Rachel Chambers had a lovely, and we thought quite fast clear, but sadly wasn’t placed as the bogie time was very fast. Our entry in the Novice 2ft 6 was Jessica Stevens, and they set off really well but were eliminated at the steps – he’d been down them perfectly in training before but in this competition the only way was up! So no rosettes, but it was a well organised and fun day out for us all.

Results from the Weekend of 9th & 10th April 2011

Today we went off to the Vine Pony Club at Sparsholt College to do our first Team event.

Our first Team was:-

2'6" - 2'9"
Nicole Wilson
Michaela Wilson
Clare Kavanagh
Claudia Carey-Yard

They all rode brilliantly with Nicole, Michaela and Claudia all jumping clear in their first phase stage and then Michaela and Claudia also did lovely clears in the 2nd Phase, with Nicole unluckily having one pole down! However in a big class they came 5th as a Team a fantastic start for them. Also Michaela came 5th as an Individual having been quick against the clock!

Our other Team:-

3'0" - 3'3"
Claudia Carey-Yard
Ashley Harrison
Clare Kavanagh

Again they rode good well presented rounds with All of them jumping clear in the first phase, then in the 2nd phase Claudia rode a lovely clear, Ashley unluckily caught the planks for one down and Clare's Canon stopped twice at the sharks teeth having been jumping very well. However the course had caused lots of problems with many Teams not getting through to the 2nd Phase which all of ours did and they came 3rd as a Team. Also Claudia came 4th as an Individual and Ashley 9th a really great result!

Congratulations to all of them, they all rode outstandingly well, very stylish and well presented throughout and riding to Team orders. I was very impressed and am really looking forward to this year. We may need further polishing but you were all a credit to our club. Well done and Thank you.

A very burnt but happy Karen

Our Mounted Games teams were out competing again this weekend at the Pertersfield
friendly competition on Saturday.
Our Senior A team of Michaela Wilson, Oliver May, Rachel Chambers and Gemma Thieme all rode
really well in their heats and qualified for most finals finishing in 7th place, there were some very
good teams out this week and competition was tough.

The Senior B team consisting of Nicole Wilson, Lucy Blair, Chloe Day and Sam Redding all rode
brilliantly and well done to Chloe and Sam, who are junior riders, for stepping in at the very last moment
to make up the numbers for this team, team finished in a excellent 9th place.

Our Junior team consisting of Chloe Day, Sam Redding, Phoebe Armstrong and Ella Hopwood had a
fantastic ride and were in second place two races from the end, the last two races did not go to plan
but they finished in a well earned 5th place, this was Ella's first time out, Chloe and Sam's second ride of the day
and we were trying a new pony for the first time, so a great result.

A good day in all and we are looking forward our next outing in Somerset over the Easter weekend.
Well done to you all.

We were pleased though as this was their first outing of the season and he hasn’t jumped a course or fillers since last year!

Madison came second in the Lead Rein and Lucas came 6th in the 1’9 and 3rd with Lucy Coles in the pairs

Wincaton Pony Racing day On Saturday 8th May.

A huge well done to the members that took part in the Wincaton Pony Racing day On Saturday 8th May.

1st race of the day ponies 128cm and under.

1st place went to Oliver May on Twiglet.
2nd Place went to Declan Kavanagh on a Spoonful of Suger

Declan was also awarded Best rider who rode the most technical race and this prize is awarded by the British racing society.

Race 6 Ponies 148cm or under

5th Place Clare Kavanagh on Cannon.

Dan Magee groomed for the day and there was a great club spirit between riders and supporters.

The day was cold and wet however it didn't dampen the spirits of the children. Their ponies were turned out immaculately and a credit to the club. The first race saw two of our members take part and with Twiglet striding out in the parade ring she soon became bookies favourite for the race. The riders safely mounted they set off down to the starting post.Nervous with anticipation they were under starters orders and away. Twiglet and Spoonful of Suger took an early lead leaving the other ponies well behind first leader was a spoonful of suger with i slight head in front however twiglet determined not to be beaten fought hard to gain the lead it was a close run race between the boys as they approached the home straight with a sudden sticky moment when Oliver became unbalanced and Declan looked like he would take the lead, Oliver quickly adjusted his position to stay just half a length in front to take first place.

Race 6 Clare and Cannons turn this race saw a huge field with many competitors and riders all out for their introduction to pony racing. As always Clare's pony sparkled with not a speck of dust to be seen (not sure if this was down to the groom or the rider). With all the competitors mounted and bets placed we raced round to the stands to asses the competition as they were escorted down to the start line. With the bigger height classes you start to see some lovely little thoroughbreds ponies appear.Clare looking a little nervous was holding her own well. They were under starters orders and away Cannon got off to a flying start leaving the field behind him all the hard work and training was paying off and he was away and running only suddenly it appears Clare begins to pull up and the other riders begin to overtake then once again we see Clare up on her knees and giving chase she ran a superb race coming in a very respectable 5th. Following a quick chat with Clare it turns out that Clare had been so shocked to be in the front and couldn't see anyone else around her she assumed it was a false start and tried to stop. I think this is a credit to her character always the polite and caring rider.

A huge well done to to the riders who experienced racing for the first time and to everyone else that came along to help and support i think you will agree a great day was had by all.

Sarah Magee reporting from Wincanton.

Mounted Games Friendly at Poole & District Branch - A senior team competed comprising Michaela Wilson on Danny, Shona Rooney on Alice, Georgie Harrison on Polo, Natalie Ward on Sasha and Holly Edwards on Alfie. They came an excellent 3rd in the tack and turn out and a very respectable 10th out of 13 in the competition. This was the first time they had competed as a team and the first ever competition for Natalie and Holly and the first time Shona and Georgie had completed on Alice and Alfie.  Well done to you all.

Congratulations to the following 8 who passed their C test.
Holly Short, Kayleigh Dixon, George Walker, Louis Rhone, Charlotte Barriff, Michaela Wilson, Izzy Knight and Shona Rooney.
They all had constructive comments for their riding to work on, but Nicola Greenwood, the examiner, said their stable management was excellent and had no comments about it at all. They celebrated with films at Karen's on her cinema screen and ate pizza's. Thanks go to Karen for training them all.
